The Breaks at Finca Popoyo is our 90 acres of paradise. We have nearly a mile of beachfront on Playa Punta Sardina. Most of the surfing world, however, knows our bay as the location of the waves of Popoyo.
This one bay includes arguably eight surf locations, four prospective world class. The breaks include the varied slow rollers of the South Bay(l/r), the delicate, but massive Outer Reef(l), the sometimes there, La Lejana, the nearly endless wave machine – Popoyo(l/r), next up, La Piedrita (r) to beware of the name and finally Rio Nauhaulapa(l).All of the other world class breaks of Tola are but minutes drive from our gate. Truly a surfers paradise!
In 2015, we hosted the ISA World Surfing Games. Like all the national federation teams for the ISAs, come join us for some of the best and most consistent waves on the planet.
Closest pillow to the wave by a long long measure. We are but 18 steps to the beach and a then a three second walk to the water, paddle out, surf. Every other pillow is, at minimum over a kilometer and a river swim crossing or two kilometers in the other direction. Caution....every single other surf operator in the Tola Nicaragua region dissembles, ie exaggerates their proximity to the waves. If you stay elsewhere, you will end up as our day guest in any event. So why not just chill with us.
We have a good kitchen that serves from gallo pinto to fresh lobster tail from our bay. Best French Fries in the zone. Most important to CERVEZA FRIA!
Location
We are located on the beach SW of the village of Las Salinas in the north of the municipality of Tola, department of Rivas, Nicaragua. With each passing season we grow closer to in time to to you as the national government of Nicaragua successfully completes and improves transportation infrastructure.
Today, the primary international airport, Agosto Sandino (MGA) in Managua is just two hours distant. However, we are only 7 km or 12 minutes to the new international airport, Costa Esmeralda, here in Tola. La Costanera, the coat road, now Hwy 62 is paved to the new airport. and a well maintained all season road for the last jaunt.
Day by day, we become more than just a world class surf destination at the end of the earth. Horse back riding, world class yoga instruction, mountain biking, thermal baths, spectacular sport fishing, ropes course, local benefits work and more activities are now available.

Seaside Private room. Good AC. Strong Wifi. and the closest pillow to the wave, just 18 steps down to the sand! Rooms are set up with a firm queen and a firm single. We can remove the single, but most travelers of two or one just use it as the couch or bag drop. We can add a second single and house 4 in a private, it is a $10,00 up charge for the fourth or $59/night.
The rooms do not have private bath facilities. Al of our guests use our bathhouse and shower.
You will fall asleep to the roar and awake to the roar of waves. Just the roar alone will teach you; after a couple days before you open your door or window, the timber of the roar will tell you if the swell is up a bit or down a bit. Walk out to the Breaks rancho, review the dawn patrol over hot java, tea, mate.
All other beds, while they may have a private bath or a tv or who knows are distant from the breaks....to the north, at least 600 meters to first hostel/hotel with a river swim and to the south 2,000 meters minimum. We are 18 steps to sand, directly in front of Popoyo surf break. You likely be our day guest, so why not just stay with us.

Super chill palapas rancho dormitory. High ceilings. Good fans. Bambu bed frames with high end mattresses. Bed Linens included, usually 400 thread count and higher. Good mossie screens.
You will sleep to the sound of the waves crashing. You will wake and immediately look out to see the empty dawn patrol line to up. When folks from more distant quarters arrive, most likely you are having our strong morning coffee after your first session....ha!
It is a two night minimum, not only because our price is so low we need two nights to simply pay for bed linens, but really, it is two nights because you MUST stay that long to even begin to appreciate our beautiful bay and local community.
All dormers share our bathhouse with showers. There is also the outdoor shower.

Popoyo
Level: Intermediate
A to frame walls going both left and right, an absolute machine of a wave. Popoyo is the always the first wave to start working and the last one to stop... if you can say that it ever truly stops, it doesn't FYI. The Breaks and Bar at Finca Popoyo are just 21 steps down to the beach directly in front of Popoyo Break. The wave and location played Host to the ISA World Surfing Games, 2015.
La Piedrita
Level: Intermediate

La Lejana
Level: Intermediate
This peeling left is essentially the little brother of the Outer Reef. Peeling off the left shoulder of the Outer reef La Lejana, also known as Rubber Duckies, is a pithy and fun left. The drop is semi to steep and gives you the chance to get some sweet tube time, beyond that the wave opens up into a fun shred to able left wall.

This river mouth break is situated on the southern side of the Finca, just a 5 minute walk from the Breaks, the wave that breaks off of the river rocks is an extremely turn to able wave suited for intermediate to advanced surfers., but does end on a sand bottom.
The South Bay .... Learner Bay
Level: Beginner
lots of slow rollers in various places of the bay makes this spot good for long boards and practice. The bay plays host to a long white sand beach and is perfect to relax, recline, and get some turns in.
