Sumatra Surf Resort opened in July 2014.. Situated 30km’s from Krui at Tanjung Setia. It faces the longest and best left handed reef break in the South Sumatra region, UJUNG BOCOR, on the point of Tanjung Setia.
Set amongst towering coconut trees and lush grounds our Bungalows are Indonesian themed with a Western style quality fit out including individually controlled fans, mosquito nets, your own verandah and private bathrooms with "HOT WATER SHOWERS". Bungalows are twin share configured or fitted with a queen size bed for couples..All our bungalows are now Air Conditioned!
The Warong is the heart and soul of the resort and has been built to reflect the natural beauty of the environment. The Warong has a restaurant, entertainment area ,bar, pool table, chill zone, satellite TV and free Wi to Fi for our guests. We stream all the major sports including the WSL, AFL and NRL, you can even watch NETFLIX
We have a lookout tower to check out the swell and a deck sitting over the beach. Perfect for a cold beer watching the sunset.

South Sumatra in particular Krui is home to some of the best surf in Indonesia.There's a wave to suit every level of surfer here; from fun beachies to long carveable walls or heavy dredging barrels.
Sumatra Surf Resort sits on the point at Tanjung Setia where its an easy paddle out to Ujung Bocur a long left handed reef break.

Sumatra Surf Resort is locally designed & purpose built accommodation. In keeping with the natural beauty of the environment the Bungalows are typical Indonesian themed but with a Western style fit out. Our surf resort features 11 twin share Bungalows and 3 'couples" Bungalows. Based on a twin share configuration we can accommodate up to 22 guests comfortably. Each Bungalow features:

Kids Surf Lessons
Our lessons are of 90 minutes duration and are held at either Mandiri or Krui Beaches in a safe and fun location. We supply boards and rashies and you supply the enthusiasm. Before you hit the water we conduct a safety briefing and ascertain your level of water competence. We have 2 levels of Learning to Surf instruction that suit all learners. Lessons are USD30 per lesson.
Beginner Surf Lessons
Our lessons are of 90 minutes duration and are held at Mandiri or Krui Beach in a safe and fun location. We supply boards and rashies and you supply the enthusiasm. Surf Guide
Our guides will show you all the best breaks in our area. Our guides will show you the best paddle out channels and take offs. If you want some company out there our guides are always happy to surf with you. There is no charge for our surf guides.
Ujung Bocur
Level: Intermediate
Sumatra Surf Resort faces Ujung Bocor, the area’s longest and best left handed reef break. It ranges in scope from heavy dredging barrels to long carveable down the line performance walls with rides in excess of 200 meters. Ujung Bocur is extremely consistent and handles large swells well. In addition, the sheer length of the wave spreads out almost any crowd.
Mandiri Beach
Level: Intermediate
About 15 minutes north is a stretch of open beach called Mandiri, a length of South to West facing beach break.But get there early before the wind does. These banks can be awesome on their day, but being a beachie its always “right time, right place.”
The Peak Krui Left and Right
Level: Intermediate
A further 15 minutes up the road and you are in the township of Krui, which has a variety of reef breaks, particularly good when the swell starts to creep up on the Point. The main ones are The Peak and Krui Right and Left. All are beautiful fun waves when the swell is too big back at the resort.Not a good idea to surf the right when the creek is open as the locals use it as a toilet and tip.
Jenny's Right
Level: Intermediate
After here the next stop is Jenny’s right. It’s about an hour or so from our resort. It’s offshore over the rainy season or if the winds swing onshore at the Hotel. A fun right hand reef break running for 100 meters, with a couple of barely and long walling sections that can break on all tides. Early mornings sessions there can give some beautiful waves. It was named Jenny’s Right after Jenny Sheehan, a well know Sydney surfer who beat everyone out the back and caught the first known wave to be ridden there.
Honey Smacks and Jimmy's Left
Level: Intermediate
About another 15 minutes up the road is Honey Smacks, a barrelling left hander more suited to the bodyboarders and a bit further on is Jimmy’s Right and Left. Best to check conditions before heading off. These are pretty serious waves and if you venture out there you’re guaranteed to come back happy!
Way Jambu- "Sumatran Pipeline"
Level: Advanced
Heading south from the camp also offers a variety of waves, the first and most famous being Way Jambu. It is one of the heaviest left to hander barrels, hence it’s nick name “Sumatran Pipeline”. This ruler edged, spitting beast is truly a word class wave. Low tide can be a scary take off with the water sucking off the reef just in front of you. Don’t look, just go and you’ll either get smashed or get the barrel of your life.
