Gabriel Medina has been wiping the floor during the first few rounds of the WSL Oi Rio Pro, racking up perfect 10’s for a series of quite frankly, ridiculous airs.

The 2014 World Champion has been blowing the competition out of the water with a series of backside reverse 360’s as well as a competition first, a front-side back flip, which he finished with his usual ‘no big deal’ claim.

Of course this is not the first time we have seen air spins or even flips, but normally they are shown in edited clips from months’ worth of footage, not during a WSL event. It’s simply amazing the amount of confidence coursing through the young Brazilians veins at the moment, with no sign of him slowing down any time soon and certainly being the one to watch in this event in his home country.

Gabriel has been a bit lower down in the leaderboard than he’s normally accustomed to going into the event, but a win here could set him up for a real go leading into the next event, and judging by his performance so far, it’s his to lose!

Watch the videos of his aerial show below, and if you fancy tackling some fun beach break waves in his home country, we offer surfing trips for beginners in the beautiful Brazilian island of Santa Catarina, giving you the perfect place to brush up your surfing skills in a fantastic location.
