There are few things as fun as summertime in Europe.  The atmosphere to socialise outside, soak up the sunshine, the long days spent at the beach, and dining with tapas al fresco is what makes it just so good.  Combine the hot days with your favourite surf destination, and you've got the best summer surf holiday.  Here are our favourite summer surf spots to get you inspired:

  • 1- South West France

The French know how to do ‘les vacances' as they love taking a month off during the summer... so it is little wonder that they have created the perfect surf holiday towns along the Atlantic coast in the south west of France.  Visit Hossegor, Seignosse, and Anglet for a touch of French glamour, amazing waves, and of course- delicious food and wine.

  • 2- Portugal

With seemingly unending beaches that have become worldwide surf reserves, Portugal has some incredible surf spots. Base yourself in one of the smaller surf towns of Ericeira or Cascais which are only 30-40 minutes away from Lisbon. So perfect for surfing during the day, or soaking up the culture and the shopping in the Portuguese capital.

  • 3- Spanish Basque Country

If you love surfing in Spain, dining al fresco, and lots of culture, then the Spanish Basque country is for you. Think of the heritage rich city of San Sebastian as a prime location.  It has beautiful surf beaches, and is within easy driving distance to infamous surf spots such as Zarautz and Mundaka for when you want to explore more.

  • 4- French Basque Country

Just as its Spanish counterpart, the French Basque country is a stunning surf region to visit.  Discover the numerous surf spots lining the coast, and if you can make the most of surfing France's cultural surf home of Biarritz in July when the Roxy Jam long board surf contest is held.

  • 5- Canary Islands

If you fancy getting further away from home and you dream of surfing in boardshorts and a rash vest, or just a bikini, then the Canary Islands are for you.  Think about surfing Fuerteventura if you want the option to have a very relaxed holiday, baked in sunshine, stunning volcanic scenery, and more than enough siesta's to wind down the most stressed of us.
