One of Canggu's best surf camps and hostel with large studio units and daily surf lessons or tours. We're walking distance to the "Gu's" action and famous beaches. Located 50 metres off the busy Pantai Batu Bolong road, Base is a great place to unwind after a wonderful day surfing or exploring Bali.
Base has 2 large hostel rooms (1 x mixed / 1 female) with huge lockers and king single beds and in to room seating, 9 large studio room's accommodating 2 people, a communal pool and kitchen, games room, hot showers, fast optic to fibre WiFi internet and cable TV in studio rooms.
Our furniture is inspired by the local Canggu setting of bohemian and industrial influences with a touch of old Bali. Guests can access Base Bali Surf school, arrange tours and activities, hire scooters or bicycles or surfboards, and receive a complimentary discount card. All rooms have surf racks for surf boards, air to conditioning, comfortable beds (not the typical budget bricks!), hotel standard linen / bath ware and CCTV covering Base.
Comfort is key to any surf holiday experience and we are known for the BEST BEDS! Perfect after a day surfing to prepare you for the next surf sesh. We have carefully selected our surf instructors and ensure they are ASI ACCREDITED INSTRUCTORS. Not many places invest in this! We've cars, vans and bikes for tours, surf lessons, or for the adventurous surfer our excellent team will take you to the bukit or anywhere you want to go .... or just hire one of our motorbikes!
Location
Canggu is the Bali's Ubud on the Beach with one of Bali's best surf breaks. A young, youthful community who have a passion for the beach, fitness, surf boards, custom bikes, travel, friendly faces and good food. It's Bali's most happening and chilled place and you aren't subject to the crowds of Kuta, Legian or Seminyak, vendors who don't hassle you and more easily move around.
Base is approximately 500m from several of Canggu's best foodie locations such Deus and Bettlenut and 1km from Old Man's bar and one of Bali's best surf spots....Canggu Beach. You can hire one of our bicycles, motorbikes or we can arrange your pick and drop for a small fee.

We run the largest kids surf training school in Bali through our Thumbs Up program. We offer lessons for kids aged 6 - 12. Each lesson is up to 2 hours per day and includes Surfboard & Rash Vest. Parents are welcome to be close by and watch. Pick up service from your accommodation or meet us at our scheduled beach lessons. Safety and fun are our main priorities - you are in good hands.
Beginner Surf Lessons
Each lessons is up to 2 hours duration and includes Surfboard & Rash Vest. Lessons are tailored to build confidence and capability as quick as possible so you enjoy the thrill of surfing. Surf Guide
We offer day and overnight trip surf guiding for individuals or groups who want to experience the vast number of waves across Bali and Indonesia. Base Surf is a dedicated surf tour organisation owned by one of Bali's best tour companies and has the capacity to ensure your surf holiday experience has you coming back for more. Season
Year round Surf destination. April to November is the dry season and most popular time. Jan-Feb expect heavy afternoon rains but still plenty of surf and less crowds.
Bali benefits from an almost endless supply of Southern Ocean groundswell meaning you are very rarely disappointed. SW swells wrap around the Bukit peninsula creating an array of world class lefts including the infamous Uluwatu which is Bali's most consistent wave. It is for the more experienced surfers and it tends to section when it's smaller which does spread the crowds out by allowing take offs almost anywhere down the line. The wave is broken down into three sections, Inside corner, Racetracks and Outside corner.
Further down the Bukit peninsula you can find Padang Padang which is home to Bali's most desired barrel and a more chilled out Bali surf holidays place to stay than the busier Kuta. It is a beautiful white sandy beach with reef out back for the more advanced, while in front it is perfect for beginners.
Bingin reef is a fun short tube wave, that can get crowded.
Dreamland beach is next in line and is one of the more user friendly beaches on the Bukit. It runs from deep water and can often be a shore break where you need to avoid creasing your board or hitting one of the many tourists playing on the inside.
Balangan is slightly more secluded with another perfect looking left point. It fires when the swell direction is big enough and coming from the right direction.
For beginners & intermediates there are many quality beach breaks around including the long beach break in the centre of Kuta and up to Legian. Further north west is Canggu which has a better mix of beginner, intermediate and advanced waves than the high performance waves on the Bukit Peninusla.
On the east side of the island you can find Nusa Dua, Sanur & further up Keramus. This side of Bali tends to work better in the Wet season (October to April).
Across from the Bali Peninsula is Grajagan or G-Land. A much more remote spot than the rest of Bali, surrounded by thick jungle and wild animals. It is often referred to as the best wave in the world. A long very consistent wave with a variety of different sections. but mostly for experienced surfers.

How did you like the accommodation?
As an expat in Indonesia, when ever I get a chance to get away for a surf, I do it. Having traveled across Indonesia for surfing, Base Guest House was the coolest surf house I have stayed in any where around the world. Canggu, where Base is located, was so laid back it felt like being back home in Cali. Plenty of great places to eat as well.. Comfortable beds, large rooms fast wifi and an awesome lady owner Erni. She was the best Indonesian chic I have met. Treats us like we are one of her children and ensures we were all enjoying our holiday. A great pool to chill out by after surfing with the great team at Base Surf School. We went with Cody one day and one of the other instructors the next for 2 day surf tours to Medewi and the Padang Padang. 2 other days we hired motorbikes through Erni's tour company and surfed around Canggu and Echo Beach. We all had an awesome time. Coming back in September and highly recommend any one who wants a great place to stay at great rates and with professional surf school (Base Surf) to stay or book lessons or tours through them. How were the surf lessons?
Beaches were good and breaks were on average 4 to 5 foot. The guys took us to were we wanted to go which involved up to 3 hours each way driving. Cody and the gang were brilliant and fun and knew their stuff. All ASI qualified. Base Surf hit the nail on the head with their team.
